Mother’s Day is around the corner! Your child can help celebrate the day by making these simple tissue paper flower corsages. This project is a great way to help fine-tune your child’s motor skills (think: lots of twisting paper and scrunching with the index finger and thumb) and the results are beautiful.
Materials:
- various colors of tissue paper
- card stock paper or thin cardboard
- scissors
- school glue
- hot glue gun (adults only)
- a brooch pin (you can find these in the jewelry making section of most craft stores)
- green ribbon
Instructions
Cut out a circle a little larger than a milk cap from your card stock paper. This will be the base of your corsage. - Cut out a square of colored tissue paper (approximately 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch) and then scrunch it into a ball. Glue it to the center of the circle with school glue.
Cut out a strip of your tissue paper (the length of the sheet – about 5 or 6 inches tall) and roll into a thin tube-like shape. Then, twist the tissue repeatedly.- Twirl and glue your twisted tissue paper around your center ball, forming what looks like a flower with your tissue paper.
Adults Only: plug in your hot glue gun and once heated, glue the ends of the tissue paper down around the flower center. If the outside edges need reinforcement, you can use the glue gun for that, too.- Apply a dab of hot glue to the center of a 6 inch length of ribbon and fold both sides over to glue into the center to make the leaves.
- Glue the ribbon to the back of the corsage, as close to the center as possible. Then glue on the pin with a small dab of the hot glue.
There you have it! As you can imagine, there are endless possibilities for color combinations, so have fun and be sure to recycle your tissue paper when you are crafting this project. Even tissue paper that has a design or pattern on it works perfectly!
