DIY Succulent Container Garden

It’s easy to plant a succulent container garden, but you do need to follow a few basic steps that will ensure that your succulents stay healthy! Succulent plants survive on very little water, and they need soil that drains well. A terracotta pot is an excellent choice for a succulent plant container because the material is porous and drains well. Ensure proper drainage by placing pebbles into the pot before you add soil, and another layer of small rocks once all the succulents are planted.

Materials:

  • terracotta pot
  • small rocks
  • potting soil
  • small succulent plants

    3. Next, it’s time to plant! Remove the succulent plants from their containers and gently loosen the root ball, the mass of roots at the base of a plant. Inside a pot, root balls form tightly and to help a plant grow more well, you’ll need to loosen this ball prior to planting.

    6. Finally, after the planting is complete, water your plants thoroughly. To do this, you will need to water until you see the water drain through the bottom of the planter. It may be helpful for you to place the planter in the sink or outside while you do this. Once all the water has drained, you know you have properly watered your garden. You will not need to water again until you test to see if the container needs water. To do this, insert your finger into the top of the soil about one inch. If the soil is dry, water. If it feels moist, wait until it is dry to add water.
