This activity is a feast for the eyes! Set up a little tray with tiny containers, fill them with baking soda and food coloring then pour on some vinegar and watch them erupt! Use this activity as a way to start a conversation with your little ones about the chemical reaction that happens with baking soda and vinegar. When combined, those two ingredients form carbon dioxide which is why the reactions creates an explosion.
Materials:
- small containers
- baking soda
- vinegar
- food coloring
Instructions
- Fill some tiny containers with baking soda. We used small glass containers. If you are concerned about making a mess, you can set the containers inside of a tray.
- Squeeze a different color of food coloring into each container.
- Pour vinegar over each little container. The reaction between the baking soda and the vinegar will create carbon dioxide and will cause each container to erupt and overflow!
