Use a solid-colored piece of card stock, and line the inside with patterned paper.
For clean, straight edges, cut the card with a craft knife and ruler on a cutting mat.
Secure the cutout at both ends with doublesided tape.
Use a bone folder to get a crisp crease on the folded elements.
