While most dogs usually claim their space in a cushioned corner of the kitchen or a dog house outside, one lucky Chihuahua named Pancho has a master suite all to his own.
It all began when proud pup owner Betty McCall wanted to give Pancho his own space in the house.
“Poncho gets really nervous when there’s a lot of people so I always had to have a dog crate so he’d have somewhere to go to calm down when people were over,” Betty McCall explained to ABC News.

That’s when she was struck with the brilliant idea of renovating an under-utilized part of her house: the storage space under her stairs.

Take a peek inside and you’ll see some of the finishes: acrylic flooring, a screen-lined opening on the door, and a functioning electric outlet in case he needs to bundle up in an electric blanket. (Aww.)
Next, she redecorated with the help of her two sisters, Carol Rowe and Gale Bemis. Most of the items furnishing the inside of the room were collected from garage sales and thrift stores. The tiny bed? An American Girl doll bed she bought for four dollars. The miniature oil painting? It cost a quarter. The itty-bitty bureau? It was salvaged from an estate sale. Other things were personal handmade touches, courtesy of her sisters.
“One of my sisters made the lamp, and the other one got the little hat and antlers,” she says.

Nowadays, Pancho has his own bedroom (door included) under the stairs of the new house. There is art on the wall — a reproduction of the 1921 famous “Dogs Playing Poker” painting (obviously), tiled floor, a small vintage wood dresser, a dog-size golden bed, and even a bedside lamp for those nights when Pancho can’t sleep and… well, we’re not sure what dogs do when they can’t fall asleep but we’re sure the lamp would help.
In other words, this tiny Chihuahua is now living large.
