A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… a father created one of the coolest handmade Halloween costumes of 2016. And all it took was some creativity, patience, and lots and lots of hot glue.
Seattle dad, Dino Ignacio, recently posted a tutorial on Imgur for creating his daughter’s incredibly detailed Star Wars costume of Rey with the Millenium Falcon. She looked absolutely adorable, giddy with excitement during the whole process.
After spending approximately three days to complete the costume, this father and daughter took it out for a little test spin at a Star Wars event at their local Barnes and Noble. This was her first ever trooping event and she spent it dressed like a pro.

They had a blast, and Ignacio was kind enough to post a detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to recreate this Halloween costume. The base for the Millennium Falcon is actually made of foam board.

He used household items like paper cups, plastic bottle caps, and bendable straws for all the parts and detailing.

He emphasizes using water based spray paints (regular spray paint will melt the foam core) and suggests using a Mod Podge Sealer to lock the paint in and give it a slight sheen. While it’s not necessary, he chose to do this because it rains a lot in Seattle and that extra layer can significantly make a difference on the finished paint job.
The great thing about this tutorial is that you can go as basic or as detailed with this Stars Wars costume as you wish. Time to break out the box cutters and hot glue gun this weekend!
