I love crafting by recycling materials because it shows my kids how to be innovative and how to be mindful of waste. Milk jug plastic can be cut into many different shapes, colored and used for many things such as sun catchers, ornaments or in this case, jewelry! We cut different shapes (circles and triangles) out of milk jug plastic, colored them and made them into a necklace. This craft is perfect for a rainy day or simple geometry lesson. If you would like to make one too, here’s how.
Materials:
- a clean milk jug
- permanent markers
- a hole puncher
- yarn or string
- scissors
Instructions
Clean and dry an empty plastic milk jug.- Cut the milk jug open and dry any pieces that may still be damp with a dry cloth.
Find a flat section of the jug and draw shapes. Trace them using a template or draw by hand.- Cut out the shapes and color them with markers.
Punch holes in the shapes with a hole puncher.- Thread yarn or string through the punched holes and tie to form a necklace.
You are finished! You made your very own necklace, and now you can make more and give them to friends!
