
1. Melt 2 pounds of raw suet (an energy source for birds, available from the butcher) in a saucepan over medium heat until liquefied. Strain through a cheesecloth; let cool. Heat and strain again.
2. Mix suet with 5 pounds mixed wild birdseed, 1 pound dried cranberries, and 1 pound raw shelled peanuts. Pack into five 1-quart plastic containers, with a loop of twine in the middle of each.
3. Freeze until firm, 2 hours; unmold and hang.
