Beautiful Gift Wrap Using Household Items

We’ve created three fresh ways to dress up your packages this holiday season using everyday items you can probably find around your home. These ideas are perfect: glitzy and easy without breaking the bank.

Gilded Leaf Gift Wrap with Pine Tassels

Materials:

  • Gold spray paint
  • Twigs, branches, dried leaves and pine needles
  • Kraft paper in assorted colors
  • Tape
  • Paintbrush
  • Twine, gold thread or ribbon (we used all three)
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon or twine

Gilded Leaves

Step 1:

High-quality gold spray paint is a must during the holiday season. There are infinite possibilities and projects. Make sure to spray-paint outside or in a well-ventilated area. Place your found leaves and branches on a sheet of kraft paper and lightly coat them with spray paint.

Applying the Leaves

Step 2:

While that’s drying, wrap your gift in a matte paper, such as black kraft paper. Once the leaves are dry, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on the back of each leaf and press onto the paper. If part of the leaf is hanging off the edge, carefully fold it over. Apply pressure to it for about 30 seconds, or until it holds. Repeat with as many or as few leaves as you’d like.

Pine Tassels

Step 3:

To make the pine tassels, use a foot of gold thread and tie one end to a cluster of gold pine needles. It helps to have the needles still on the branch. Tightly wrap the thread around 1/4 inch at the top of the needles and cover any of the branch that is still showing. Cut off any excess branch and trim the ends of the pine needles as desired.

Step 4:

Double-knot your thread and leave the remaining thread attached. Repeat these steps 2 more times and then tie all the tassels together. Using ribbon or twine, wrap a bow around your gift. Before double-knotting your bow, loop the ribbon around one of the threads on the tassel. Once the gift is unwrapped, the tassels double as an adorable alternative to hanging mistletoe.

Tied Branches

Looking for something simpler? Use twine and tie a bow around a cluster of gold branches and a leaf. Voila! You’re a gift-wrapping master.

Glitter Gift Boxes

Glitter Gift Boxes

Materials:

  • Glitter
  • Kraft paper boxes
  • Foam brush
  • Craft glue
  • Twine
  • Gift tags
  • Scissors

Glitter Box In Process

Step 1:
Pour a cup of glitter into a large box. Using a foam brush, apply a thin layer of glue to the top of the kraft paper box. Push the glued surface into the glitter a couple times until the box is thoroughly covered.

Step 2:

Repeat on each side of the box top. When you’ve glittered all the outer sides, set the box aside to dry for an hour. Once it’s dry, fill the box with your gift, place the glitter top on, and use twine and gift tags to personalize. Don’t have time to track down all the supplies? We’ve got you covered with our no-hassle Glittered Gift Box kit.

Ombre Stripe Gift Wrap

Ombre Glitter Stripe Gift Wrap

Materials:

  • Kraft paper
  • Double-sided tape
  • 2 glitters of the same color but different tones

Step 1:
Wrap your gift with a matte paper such as natural kraft paper.

Step 2:
Take a long strip of double-sided tape and adhere one side of it to the kraft paper — you want it to wrap around at least three sides of the gift. Repeat with another strip of tape a few inches apart. Continue with this process until you have a striped pattern.

Step 3:

Sprinkle one shade of glitter in 3-inch sections along the tape. Shake off any excess before sprinkling on the second shade over the bare sections of tape. Shake off again and gift to a loved one. It’s really that easy!
